Photographing Michael and Matt was such a fun experience! We started off the evening with an in-home session in their beautiful home right outside of Portland. We stayed and chatted for a while before heading to the coast for an Oregon couples session. After arriving to the coast we first visited Ecola State Park, one of my favorite places in the Pacific Northwest. The sun streaks cast through the dark forest and made for the most dreamy light to photograph. After, we made our way to my favorite beach on the Oregon Coast, Hug Point. Hug Point is just right down the road from Ecola State Park and is so quaint.
Lots of families and friends come here to watch the sunset and build bonfires, which is one of my new favorite things to do. We ran around the beach for a while drinking ciders and watching the sunset slowly drop below the ocean. It was such a beautiful view with the smell of crisp bonfires all around drifting with the wind.
During the session, I also wanted to grab some product shots of the new “LOVE” sweatshirts that the Human Rights Campaign recently released. As we were about to start shooting the campaign for HRC we noticed a family was getting ready to leave and they kindly let us borrow their bonfire for some shots, which easily became my favorite! At first, I was nervous because the sun had already set, my camera settings were getting higher and higher and they orange lights on their skin were extremely harsh.
Luckily, with some editing and shooting RAW, I got the job done with some Lightroom and Photoshop tricks and couldn’t be happier with these results! We finished the night with seafood and “mocktails” before a long drive back to Portland! Sweet summer nights on the coast like these are what bring me so much joy. Cheers to new friendships, adventure and a memorable first summer in Oregon.
